New Bush press aide irritates media

UPI News Service, 05/15/2006

New White House Press Secretary Tony Snow got a frosty greeting from the news media at his first on-the-record briefing.

The former Fox network commentator opted for a more "laid-back" approach his first time out and invited reporters to his West Wing office instead of addressing them from the podium in the regular White House briefing room.

It didn't go as planned. For one thing, a lot more reporters showed up than expected -- about 80 of them -- who packed his small office and had a lot of the media grumbling. The fact he was 30 minutes late didn't help.

"Do not do that again," one reporter told him.

Monday's briefing was back in the usual briefing room -- and likely would be from here on, the Cincinnati Enquirer said.
