MTV Networks said Wednesday the benefit will feature Alica Keys and artists from around the world who have pledged to support MTV Asia Aid. Actress Jennifer Lopez, Sting, 50 Cent, Ricky Martin, Moby and others will offer taped messages of support during the broadcast MTV says could reach more than 1 billion people.
Bill Roedy, president MTV Networks International, said the Feb. 3 telecast would be offered free of charge to any outlet that wants to broadcast it.
"Our goal is to reach at least three-quarters of the world's TV households with this event," Roedy said.
CNN International also will support the event with special vignettes that highlight the need to continue supporting relief efforts in the wake of the December disaster.
"The human tragedy for those that survived the tsunami continues to grow," said Rena Golden, senior vice president of CNN International. MTV Asia Aid will highlight reconstruction "and the difficult process of healing for the people around the Indian Ocean."
