Camille Thompson, 34, of Houghton-le-Spring, England, said she and her husband, Paul, were originally told they were having only one baby, but a scan performed eight weeks into the pregnancy found twins, The (Glasgow) Daily Record reported Friday.

Thompson said she went in for another scan at 12 weeks, and that time doctors told her she was going to have triplets.

"It has been absolutely amazing, but totally bonkers," she said.

"Paul and I had been trying for a while, so we were delighted to be expecting a child. When we discovered we were expecting twins, we thought, 'Great.' When the third scan came round and we were told I would be having triplets, Paul went into shock. But everything was fine and they were delivered by [Caesarean] section, so in the end it was a relatively easy birth."

Thompson said newborn girls Amelie, Lori and Sofia spent their first 10 days in a hospital but are now home.
