Blake Christopher Wilms of Clarkston, Mich., is charged with robbing five banks during the last seven weeks, the Detroit News reported Sunday.
Police said Wilms told them he has a gambling problem.
"He said he liked to gamble and needed money for that," said Birmingham Police Commander John Van Gorder. "Whether he needed it for more gambling or to pay off some outstanding debts is still unclear. But he was pretty straightforward. He had a gambling problem."
