Melanie Griffith is to star in the new film "The Grief Tourist," Suzanne DeLaurentiis Productions and Vision Entertainment said Monday.

Best known for her Oscar-nominated performance in "Working Girl," the Hollywood actress has also appeared in "Something Wild," "Body Double," "Born Yesterday," "Crazy in Alabama" and "Cecil B. Demented."

Directed by Suri Krishnamma, "The Grief Tourist" is currently in production for a release next year.

The film is about a disturbed and troubled man whose "fascination with serial killers leads him and the audience on a horrific and menacing journey through his obsessive and twisted mind as he retraces their footsteps," the film's producers said in a synopsis.

Written by Frank John Hughes, who acted in "Band of Brothers" and "Catch Me If You Can," the film stars Michael Cudlitz of "Southland," "A River Runs Through it" and "The Negotiator." Cudlitz also is co-producing with Ivan Kavalsky.
