Mel Gibson not moving back to Australia following recent scandal

UPI News Service, 07/19/2010

Mel Gibson's publicist is denying a report the actor-director is leaving the United States in the wake of a recent personal scandal.

The London Daily Mail said Gibson, 54, is selling his California home and heading back to Australia, where he previously lived for many years.

The Mail also said he intends to reunite with his ex-wife, Robyn, to whom he was married nearly 30 years. They have seven children.

"There's no truth to the Mail's story," the New York Post quoted Gibson's spokesman as telling NBC News.

Robyn publicly defended Gibson after audio clips purportedly of the actor-director allegedly making racist and threatening remarks to his ex-girlfriend were released to the public.

Gibson has not commented publicly about the content of the leaked recordings, but he has said his former girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, attempted to extort money from him in exchange for keeping taped conversations between them quiet.

Gibson and Grigorieva are the parents of an 8-month-old daughter.
