The sheriff's deputy who arrested actor-director Mel Gibson is suing the County of Los Angeles for alleged discrimination and harassment, court records show.

Deputy James Mee arrested Gibson for drunken driving in 2006. Mee became a household name after it became public Gibson made anti-Semitic remarks during his arrest.

Mee, who is Jewish, is seeking undisclosed damages, claiming in his lawsuit that he has been subject to repeated disciplinary action and overlooked for promotions because he alleged his bosses ordered him to delete portions of his report about Gibson, People.com reported. Mee has denied that he is the one who leaked the report to the media.

"My client simply wants to be left alone to do his job at the sheriff's department," Mee's lawyer Etan Z. Lorant told the Web site. "He's always wondering what they might do to punish him next."

"We categorically deny this lawsuit," Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told People.com. "This has nothing to do with ethnicity. What the sheriff's department did was launch an investigation because someone was releasing confidential documents, which is a crime. We look forward to telling the whole story in this case."
