Meghan McCain, daughter of U.S. Sen. John McCain, has joined MSNBC as a contributor, the cable network announced.

Her first appearance is set for Monday on "NOW with Alex Wagner."

Meghan McCain, a frequent MSNBC guest since 2009, worked at Newsweek magazine and "Saturday Night Live" when she was a student at Columbia University.

"I couldn't be more excited to be joining the MSNBC family," McCain, 27, said in a statement.

"It's a unique opportunity to share my perspective as a Republican on a network I respect and have built a relationship with over the past two years."

MSNBC said in a news release McCain's "unparalleled exposure to American politics gave her the opportunity to hear voters debate the most complex issues first-hand."

McCain, a columnist for The Daily Beast, chronicled her time on the 2008 presidential campaign trail with her father in the memoir "Dirty Sexy Politics."
