After leaving the notice of termination on Mark Winson's door during a legislative budget session, Duluth, Minn., Mayor Herb Bergson left town on business. Winson was stunned, as were many who knew both men, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune said Thursday.
"I'll defend my decision to the death," Bergson told the Duluth News-Tribune. "The decision I made was a good one. But, I will not defend the method I used to inform Mark of that decision. I can't. I was wrong. I apologize."
Bergson would offer no explanation for the firing, other than citing "philosophical differences."
