Broderick recalled strolling along the Walk of Fame with his late father, actor James Broderick.
"He would have gotten a kick out of it," KABC-TV, Los Angeles, quoted him as saying.
Broderick's wife, actress Sarah Jessica Parker, was on hand with her camera to record the events of the day.
"I thought it was really important to document today," she said. "It's a really special moment in their lives, you know, professionally, and I think personally it's really very touching."
Lane told the crowd assembled to watch the ceremony he was "truly touched."
Lane has been nominated for a Golden Globe for his screen portrayal of Max Bialystock, which also earned him a Tony on Broadway.
The pair can currently be seen in "The Odd Couple" on Broadway.
