Married at First Sight star Miles Williams insists he was just joking when he upset his wife Karen Landry and caused her to leave their apartment for the night by scheduling "sex with my wife" on their refrigerator calendar while discussing how to progress intimacy in their marriage.

Miles, a 26-year-old who works with youth from Spartanburg, SC, and Karen, a 30-year-old consultant from New Orleans, LA, were matched by Married at First Sight experts Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Dr. Viviana Coles and Pastor Calvin Roberson to marry on Season 11 of the Lifetime reality series.

During Wednesday night's episode of Married at First Sight: Unfiltered, Miles watched back a Season 11 clip in which Karen told the cameras she had spent the night apart from her husband because Miles had upset her and "crossed a boundary" by writing "sex with my wife" on their calendar.

"We just had our first kiss, so where is this sex talk coming from all of a sudden?" Karen asked the cameras in the clip. "I don't really know if we can move past it."

On Unfiltered, Miles laughed at the footage because he appeared so devastated and sad after his misunderstanding with Karen.

Unfiltered host Jamie Otis, who starred on Season 1 of Married at First Sight, asked Miles how the conversation escalated to the point of Karen leaving their apartment and sleeping somewhere else for the night.

"So the conversation ended up being about intimacy and sex, right? And Karen is not the most comfortable talking about that in the presence of production. And I decided to ask her about it anyway," Miles shared.

"I made her uncomfortable. [Sex on the calendar] was obviously a joke, but she didn't take it as one in the moment."

Karen had complained to the cameras it was a "stupid" and "childish moment" for Miles that made her feel "disrespected" in her own home. She said he had "crossed a boundary" with her.

"Sometimes you have to pick your battles, and for me, I think this is one of the battles that I'm like, 'You know what? It's not as deep to me as it is to you, let me make sure I'm supporting you and making sure you feel comfortable,' and we'll move past it," Miles reasoned.

Jamie therefore asked Miles if he thought Karen had overreacted by spending the night away from him.

"I don't think she overreacted by going home," Miles noted. "I think her feelings are valid in terms of the way that I made her feel."

Miles' Married at First Sight co-star Henry Rodriguez joined Miles on Unfiltered and offered his thoughts on that clip of Karen.

"I mean, America probably doesn't realize this, but I have a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor, so I'm used to saying things that somewhat upset people," Henry shared.

"And so, I think Miles [said] a joke. I think he felt comfortable to try making a joke at the moment and it wasn't [received well]. He learned his lesson."

Henry then looked at Miles and playfully advised him, "Don't do it again."

Miles said he definitely learned something after seeing Karen's reaction to his joke about intimacy.

"If I had to do it all over again, would I have said it the exact same way? Probably not," Miles explained.

"But I also think there are a lot worse things I could do than write 'sex with Miles' on the calendar, right?"

"So, at the end of the day," he continued, "[Karen] will be more pissed off at me for something else in the future and we're going to see how she handles things that I do when I mess up again going forward."

Miles previously admitted on the September 9 episode of Unfiltered that his relationship with Karen wasn't the slowest relationship he's ever been in, as he once dated a girl for two years and never was intimate with her.

"[So] to be in a place where we are right now, like, I'm not stressing that," Miles said at the time of intimacy with Karen. "It's all going to come in due time, and when it comes, it's going to be great."

Miles, a self-declared affectionate person, has had trouble opening Karen up and figuring out where she stands in their marriage on Married at First Sight.

Karen was pretty standoffish during the couple's honeymoon, but once Miles expressed his needs and desire for more intimacy -- not necessarily sexual intercourse -- he managed to snag a couple of kisses from Karen, who promised to give Miles more compliments and try to express her feelings more.

"I know I need to step it up. It's something I want to work on. I just hope you see I'm trying to work on it," Karen told her husband in a previous MAFS episode.

But Miles' mistake with the calendar briefly set the couple back.

Karen said being Miles' wife didn't mean he automatically had access to her physically and she wanted to feel "safe and protected" in her marriage.

Karen asked Miles to be more attentive and considerate in his actions and words as a result, and after listening intently, Miles responded, "I agree."

Miles apologized for making Karen feel uncomfortable and betraying her trust. He admitted his jokes were "too much" and he'd do whatever it takes to earn her trust back, and in turn, Karen promised to take their intimacy up a notch.

"I can tell that Karen is continuing to open up and grow, and hopefully I can continue to build that trust because having a wife means the world to me and she's a person I can see having in my life forever," Miles noted.

The couple's attraction for each other grew in a subsequent couples' meditation and massage class that was Karen's idea.

"I want to be able to do things to make him feel special," Karen told the cameras. "I'm definitely attracted to Miles and I do want to have physical intimacy with my husband."

And in the latest episode of Married at First Sight, Karen and Miles continued to bond through different exercises of communication and digging deeper into each other's pasts and feelings.

In addition to Miles, Karen, and Henry, Married at First Sight's eleventh season, which currently airs on Wednesday nights on Lifetime, also stars Bennett Kirschner, Amelia Fatsi, Christina, Olivia, Brett Lindsey, Amani, and Woody Randall.
