Married at First Sight star Clint Webb has claimed Gina Micheletti was a totally different person off-camera and so she gave him mixed signals about the future of their relationship.

On Married at First Sight's sixteenth season, Gina, a 35-year-old Nashville salon owner, and Clint, a 40-year-old tech consulting company owner, have managed to keep each other in the friend zone with only about a week left until Decision Day.

The spouses appear to get along great and have fun together, but there is no spark or intimacy of any kind between them. Clint and Gina had even been sleeping in separate beds in their Nashville apartment from Week 1 -- post-honeymoon -- through the Couples' Retreat.

During the April 26 episode of Married at First Sight: Afterparty, Clint admitted there was "confusion" during the experiment of whether he was getting to see the real Gina or if their co-stars -- whom Gina would sometimes complain and vent to -- were seeing her true self.

"I get these mixed emotions kind of back and forth," Clint told Afterparty host Keshia Knight Pulliam.

"So I'm trying to suss through, like, where are we and who are we, as a couple? And when you feel like there's more of a bond when the cameras are on rather than when the cameras are off, then it speaks in volumes."

Clint repeated how he felt more bonded to Gina when cameras were rolling, suggesting that she acted a bit cold or distant when they didn't have to put on a show for viewers.

"When the cameras are off, she's different?" Keshia asked Clint for clarification.

"Different person," Clint insisted. "There's no level of excitement or just anything else that would tell you, like, 'This is even a person I can have a friendship with.'"

Gina, however, confided in Clint and got emotional when sharing how one of her hairstylists -- whom she had trained and mentored -- quit her salon.

Clint acknowledged it was "nice" when Gina was finally able to be vulnerable with him and lean on him.

"That's a piece that's really been missing in the relationship, is trust and vulnerability and being able to leverage each other," Clint shared.

When asked if he was hopeful that progress could still be made in his marriage with "Decision Day" right around the corner, Clint shared, "There's always hope -- always hope. You never run out of hope. Hope comes free."

He elaborated, "So I'm just always trying to search for, like, the gold in the relationship. And I'm always searching for the things, like, 'Is this sustainable? Can we do this? Can we continue on?'"

Clint said while it would be "great" to marry his best friend, he needs more than that.

"[I want] somebody I at least love," Clint confessed. "And it's like, 'Do I think that could ever happen between us?'"

With just about a week to go until Decision Day, Clint and Gina had yet to kiss, let alone make love, or explore intimacy in their marriage of any kind.

The pair attempted to set the mood one night, and they weren't shy to dive into deep conversation -- but nothing seemed to help advance their friendship connection.

Despite a mutual lack of attraction to each other, Gina and Clint remained optimistic throughout the process and made an effort to have fun with each other.

The spouses kept an open mind that an emotional and physical connection could develop organically, or maybe even happen overnight.

For Clint's part, he was apparently doing everything in his power to avoid getting divorced.

"I've always been of the mindset of, 'Once I get married, that's it. I'm staying married.' So that's a promise and something I heralded in my mind forever," Clint told Keshia on Afterparty.

During the Couples' Retreat in Gatlinburg, TN, Gina asked Clint to "step up in communication" for their relationship to work, and Clint wanted to continue to smile and have good times with his wife without putting stress or pressure on themselves.

But Clint was unaware of the fact Gina had vented to their co-stars about his wild partying at the retreat.

"I'm surprised that Clint actually found the bed, because he was pretty drunk last night. If I were to ask anyone, they wouldn't want that in a marriage. It's not something that's attractive or you're like, 'I can't wait to get that guy!'" Gina said.

"I don't want him to have to be a different person around me, but he's never built that attraction for me either. And so, he doesn't see me as someone that he needs to impress or he needs to fight for or he needs to work for or compliment."

Gina concluded, "So I've never felt like a wife."

Married at First Sight's sixteenth season also stars Airris Williams and Jasmine Secrest, Nicole Lilienthal and Chris Thielk, and Kirsten Grimes and Shaquille Dillon.

Domynique Kloss and Mackinley Gilbert decided to get a divorce on Day 12 of the experiment and have not been featured in recent episodes.
