The organizer of an annual New Orleans pet parade has trademarked the name Mardi Paws.

Denise Gutnisky, holder of the copyright, asks that anyone wanting to use the name pay her several hundred dollars, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Sunday. Last year, three other animal rescue groups around the country tried to use the name, but changed their minds when they realized they would have to pay, the report said.
Gutnisky says any royalties she receives go to a charity called Have a Heart thru Art, which helps expose underprivileged kids to the arts, the newspaper said, though no one has paid to use the name since Hurricane Katrina.
