UPI News Service, 12/11/2005

As Christmas decorations become glitzier each year, more U.S. homeowners are paying up to $20,000 to have professionals string the lights.

"Every year it keeps growing," said William Badyna, who paid $10,000 a Christmas decorator to string thousands of lights and figurines around his New York home. "It's a lot of work, I definitely wouldn't be able to do it myself."

Badyna's display was so large he spent $3,000 to upgrade his home's electrical system, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.

Mechanical Displays, a New York City company that specializes in motorized carousels and dancing 15-foot toy soldiers, charges $20,000 for a home display and still had to turn away business.

Lou Nasti, of Mechanical Displays, says husbands often don't want their wives to know how much they spent on decking the halls.
