An Ohio man who won a $150,000 lottery payout said he was nearing the end of his unemployment benefits when he received the news.

David Loomis of Columbus said he bought a lottery ticket last year at the Walford Market and didn't realize he had won any money until he was surprised Tuesday by lottery officials and store workers who lured him back to the market with a false story about him winning a drawing for a free hat and mug, WBNS-TV, Columbus, reported Friday.

Loomis said he recently lost his job and his unemployment benefits were set to expire when he learned of the lottery prize.

"I just started crying because we never win anything," said Loomis' wife, Beth. "This morning I walked the dog and found a dollar and thought, 'I guess this might be our lucky day.' I guess it is his lucky day."

The couple said they plan to use the cash to pay off their bills and they might also put a down payment on a new house.
