A Salvation Army spokeswoman said a "Secret Santa" dropped $5,500 into a donation kettle outside a Kmart store in northwest Georgia.
Kimberly George, a spokeswoman for the charity's Chattanooga, Tenn., office, said the man dropped 55 $100 bills into the kettle outside a Kmart in Fort Oglethorpe and declined to give his name, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday.
"All he said was, 'Merry Christmas and please remember me,'" George said.
"We are so grateful since we are up 30 percent in need and kettle donations have been flat at best."
