Man credits Facebook users with swift return of stolen ice cream truck

UPI News Service, 09/25/2017

A Florida man whose ice cream truck was stolen in the dead of night said the vehicle was found quickly thanks to the help of Facebook users.

Michael Stadther of Okaloosa Island posted Saturday morning on Facebook that his ice cream truck has been stolen at some point during the previous night.

A miniature golf course adjacent to the parking lot where Stadther's truck was parked Friday night shared security camera footage with him and authorities, but Stadther credited Facebook users who shared his post -- as well as a post by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office -- hundreds of times with helping to find it.

One man who saw Stadther's truck spotted it on the side of a road in Navarre with two men apparently sanding the paint job.

Stadther and the man, a friend of a friend, went together to where the truck was spotted and they found it parked in front of a nearby residential trailer.

The truck had been stripped of its stickers and decals, as well as partially spray-painted, but it does not seem to have been otherwise damaged.

"I'd like to thank all my FB friends for sharing my post which led to me locating my truck," Stadther wrote on Facebook.

"I'm just glad I got it back," he told WPMI-TV. "As long as it is in working condition, I'm glad to just have found it."

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
