Lou Diamond Phillips has signed up to play himself in an upcoming episode of the U.S. comedy series, "Cougar Town," ABC said.

Best known for his work in the films "La Bamba,""Young Guns" and "Stand and Deliver," as well as on the TV series "Stargate Universe," Phillips will appear in the May 18 installment of "Cougar Town."

"As Travis continues on a downward spiral from his breakup with Kirsten, Jules decides it's time to give him some tough love," ABC said in a synopsis Monday.

"Meanwhile, Andy advises Bobby and Laurie on their new business with the help of Lou Diamond Phillips, and Ellie and Grayson are threatened by three occult kids."

"Cougar Town" stars Courteney Cox as Jules, Christa Miller as Ellie, Busy Philipps as Laurie, Dan Byrd as Travis, Josh Hopkins as Grayson, Ian Gomez as Andy and Brian Van Holt as Bobby.
