The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train was held at the JFK/UMass station in Boston for minutes while train crew searched, to no avail, for the snake, The Boston Globe reported Thursday.
When the train reached the Braintree Station six cars of the train were searched again with no sign of the snake, The (Braintree, Mass.) Patriot Ledger reported.
The train was put back into service after the search, MTBA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said.
Penelope's owner put an ad on Craigslist Friday.
"She is a very mellow snake -- never hisses or bites and is very timid," the posting read, describing Penelope as "a bit under 3 feet long with a brownish, almost pinkish paisley looking pattern on her back."
The ad promised a reward if Penelope is found.
