Los Super Seven returns with 'Heard it on the X' album

UPI News Service, 03/22/2005

When Los Super Seven's self-titled first album won a Grammy Award in 1999, the all-star collective's members were "shocked."

Now, however, the group -- launched as a casual side project -- is confidentially back with its third album, "Heard it on the X," a tribute to the eclectic radio stations that broadcast from south of the Texas/Mexico border.

"I love the idea of disengaging people's prejudices," says "X" co-producer Rick Clark, who worked on the album with LSS conceptualizer Dan Goodman and musician Charlie Sexton. "I like getting them to listen to things they wouldn't normally put on and finding out they went for a cool ride."

The line-up for "Heard it on the X," which takes its name from a ZZ Top song, features Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Joe Ely, the Mavericks' Raul Malo, Rick Trevino, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Rodney Craowell, Raul Malo and Freddy Fender.
