Lohan is accused of stealing a $2,500 necklace from a boutique. She has insisted she was borrowing the bauble and did nothing wrong.
In addition to sentencing Lohan for the probation violation, Judge Stephanie Sautner downgraded her theft charge from a felony to a misdemeanor, E! News said Friday. The actress must perform 480 hours of community service as part of her sentence.
E! News said Lohan's lawyer immediately filed an appeal and the actress is expected to avoid serving her jail sentence until the appeal is decided.
Lohan, 24, is a former child star best known for her work in "Mean Girls,""Freaky Friday" and "The Parent Trap." She has worked sporadically in recent years as she battled an addiction to drugs and dealt with her various legal troubles.
