Despite her youth and promising career, Lohan has long battled an addiction to drugs and alcohol.
The 24-year-old star of "Freaky Friday" and "Mean Girls" spent nearly the past two weeks in a solitary cell for violating her probation in a 2007 driving under the influence case. Her sentence was cut short due to her good behavior and overcrowding in the prison system.
"She was released at 1:35 a.m.," Los Angeles Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told People.com.
"She has been sent directly to her next destination, which is a treatment center. And she will now be under the supervision of the LA County probation department. This concludes her custody."
