E! News said the 24-year-old "Mean Girls" and "Freaky Friday" star maintained her innocence to the felony grand theft charge during Thursday's court appearance.
Her probation violation case will be heard concurrently with a preliminary hearing set for April 22, E! News said. The judge overseeing the hearing will determine if there is sufficient evidence to go to trial.
Lohan is on probation for a 2007 driving-under-the-influence conviction.
An interim hearing has been set for March 25. Lohan is only required to appear if she plans to accept the prosecutors' deal, which includes six months of jail in exchange for a guilty or no contest plea to the theft charge, E! News said.
If she plans to take the deal, Lohan and her attorney must inform prosecutors by March 23.
