Lindsay Lohan starts serving her court-ordered house arrest sentence

UPI News Service, 05/26/2011

Lindsay Lohan began serving her court-ordered house arrest sentence Thursday, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said.

Lohan, 24, was sentenced to four months behind bars and 480 hours of community service after she pleaded no contest to stealing a $2,500 necklace from a boutique, an act that violated her probation in a 2007 driving-under-the-influence conviction. The community service is to be performed at the Los Angeles County morgue and a women's detention center.

People.com said the "Mean Girls" and "Freaky Friday" star was eligible for house arrest at her home in Venice, Calif., because of jail overcrowding. She is required to stay at home and wear an electronic monitoring bracelet.

Lohan may serve as little as two weeks of confinement, however, because of good behavior and budgetary constraints, the Web site said.

"She is now confined to the interior premises of her home at all times," Los Angeles Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told People.com.
