A man who filed a false police report has been ordered to wear a sign declaring "I AM A LIAR" while parading a busy Georgia street.
Craig Bruwet, 33, told police he had been abducted and beaten by two men in a shopping mall parking lot in Warner Robins, Ga. after being forced into his car at gunpoint. Police said they were initially skeptical of Bruwet's story since abductions are rare in the area. Further questioning revealed that Bruwet's story was a fabrication, the Macon, Ga., Telegraph reported Friday.
It was clear that Bruwet had indeed been beaten up. He received medical care for a gash on his face but has still not given police the reason for his wounds.
Houston County, Ga., District Attorney Kelly Burke told the newspaper that he surmised Bruwet made up the story because he was somewhere he shouldn't have been when he received his injuries.
In lieu of facing trial, Bruwet must display the sandwich board-sized sign for 10 hours.
"I've learned my lesson," Bruwet told the newspaper.
