American Idol is going way back to its overseas origins for this season's exit song.

The show has announced that Will Young's "Leave Right Now" will serve as the exit song heard after ninth-season contestants are eliminated from the competition.

Young won the first season of Pop Idol, the British reality competition that American Idol was based on, in February 2002 and "Leave Right Now" was the first single off his sophomore album "Friday's Child," which was released in late 2003.

"Leave Right Now" represents the first tune not sung by a former American Idol finalist to serve as the show's exit song in three seasons -- as Chris Daughtry's "Home" was used for the sixth season, Ruben Studdard's "Celebrate Me Home" was used for the seventh installment, and Carrie Underwood's "Home Sweet Home" was used for last spring's edition.

The exit song will make its American Idol debut during tonight's results show at 8PM ET/PT, when two male semifinalists who performed on Wednesday night and two female semifinalists who performed on Tuesday night will be eliminated based on home viewer votes.
