A Pennsylvania man ordered to remove the word "crap" from protest signs on his property filed a lawsuit, alleging his free-speech rights were violated.

Aaron Martin, a lawyer for David Kliss of East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, said in the federal lawsuit the township violated his client's free-speech rights by ordering him to remove the word from signs protesting fees from an upcoming sewer project, The Patriot News in Harrisburg, Pa., reported Monday.

Martin said the township's zoning ordinance does not define what constitutes "vulgar, indecent or obscene" content in its section on signs. The lawsuit says the ordinance is void due to its vague definitions and the limits it places on free speech.

The lawsuit, which names the township and code enforcement agency Light-Heigel & Associates, is seeking an injunction against enforcement of the sign ordinance in addition to legal fees and unspecified monetary damages.
