An Ohio state representative said the pranksters who toilet-papered his house were fellow Republicans from the state Legislature.

State Rep. Jay Hottinger, R-Newark, said the group covered his car, mailbox and fence with toilet paper Wednesday night and he quickly focused his suspicions on state Sen. Mark Wagoner, R-Ottawa Hills, The (Toledo) Blade reported Monday.

"I knew Mark was behind it because he had asked me what my address was," Hottinger said.

Wagoner admitted Friday to helping plan the prank, but denied being among the culprits executing the scheme.

"I was not one of the people who did the toilet-papering, although I did help get the toilet paper," he said. "Jay is a good friend. I served with Jay in both the House and the Senate. He lives about a mile away from the lodge we were at. I know they did it late at night. It was all in good fun and Jay was laughing about it next morning."

Hottinger said he believes nine current or incoming members of the Legislature were involved.

"I've got three daughters, ages 15, 13 and 9, in high school, middle school and elementary school. I always expected the house would be toilet-papered, but I didn't think it would be by my colleagues," Hottinger said.
