Veteran actress Lauren Bacall claims modern actresses have "miniscule talent" and are unable to have successful marriages along with their careers.

In an interview with Radio Times, the 80-year-old said she listened to her first husband Humphrey Bogart when he said her career came second to the marriage.

"You can't have it all. Today, women with minuscule talent are willing to sacrifice everything for their careers," she said.

She said her career suffered as a result of putting her 12-year marriage first with Bogart, who died of throat cancer, and then her second husband, Jason Robards.

"I don't regret it. You make choices," the star of 55 films said. She went on to lament the overall quality of the modern talent pool.

"We live in an age of mediocrity," she said. "Stars today are not the same stature as Bogie (Humphrey Bogart), Jimmy Cagney, Spencer Tracy, Henry Fonda and Jimmy Stewart.

"Actors today go into TV, which I don't consider has a lot to do with acting."
