LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa downplays Charlie Sheen meeting

UPI News Service, 01/08/2013

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Tuesday stiff-armed reporters seeking amplification on his weekend party encounter with Charlie Sheen.

The mayor found himself receiving unwelcome media attention after the bad-boy actor posted a photo of the two with the message: "From Boyle Heights 2 Mayor of LA .... Antonio Villaraigosa knows how to party!"

On Tuesday, Villaraigosa was in no mood to discuss the episode further as he ignored inquiries as he walked down a City Hall corridor accompanied by body guards, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"I don't have anything else to say about that," Villaraigosa said.

Villaraigosa previously had told KNBC-TV, Los Angeles, he had not been in Cabo San Lucas for the opening of the bar Sheen owns, but for the hotel where the bar is located.

"I had a 3-minute conversation," Villaraigosa told the station. "I took a picture with him. I'm in the picture-taking business. I take a picture virtually every single day, 50 times."

TMZ reported after Villaraigosa downplayed the encounter as lasting just a few minutes, Sheen begged to differ.

"We hung out for the better part of 2 hours, discussing his LA roots, his poignant bullet campaign as well as his 3 a.m. lawn-watering tactics," Sheen said.

"He's a terrific guy, a great mayor and he can drink with the best of 'em: me. Quite a memorable night indeed."
