Kilpatrick, who is on trial for federal racketeering charges in U.S. District Court, posted to his Twitter account Wednesday that he saw a man breaking into a home on the street where his mother, former U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, lives, The Detroit News reported Thursday.
Kilpatrick said he yelled at the man to "get out there," and the thief recognized him.
"Damn, OK Kwame," Kilpatrick quoted the thief as saying.
"Then he asked me for a picture. Wow!" Kilpatrick tweeted.
Kilpatrick said he did not turn the man in to police.
"No Way! The police would book me for sure," he posted.
