Kitty Kelley's Bush book costs her Washingtonian magazine job

UPI News Service, 12/08/2004

Kitty Kelley's scathing "The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty" has cost Kelley her job at the Washingtonian magazine, MSNBC reported Wednesday.

Kelley worked at the Washingtonian, owned by a friend of the presidential family, for nearly 30 years. She discovered her name was missing from the masthead shortly after the book was published.

Editor Jack Limpert, in an e-mail response to Kelley's questions, wrote she had "crossed a line of responsibility and partisanship that is important to us," MSNBC reported. Kelly responded by e-mail, saying she would have respected Limpert had he told her he had to fire her. "Instead, you...wrapped your criticism around a pious respect 'for the office of the President' and for the private lives of those who occupy the White House."

Kelley said the magazine did not offer the same respect to the Clinton White House.

Limpert said the magazine's owner did not pressure him, and he made the decision because he did not want the magazine associated with the book, MSNBC reported.
