'Kinky Boots' leads Tony Awards field with 13 nominations

Broadway's "Kinky Boots," with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper, led New York's Tony Award nominations with 13, followed by "Matilda: The Musical" with 12.

The other Best Musical nominees for new shows are "Bring It On" and "A Christmas Story," the American Theatre Wing and the Broadway League announced Tuesday.
The revival of "Pippin" received 10 nominations.
"Golden Boy," a revival of Clifford Odets' boxing drama, had the most nominations of any drama, eight, with the late Nora Ephron's new play "Lucky Guy," starring multiple Oscar winner Tom Hanks, close behind with six nominations.
Other Best Play nominees are the new dramas "The Assembled Parties," "The Testament of Mary" and "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike." Revivals getting nods are "Orphans," "The Trip to Bountiful" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"
Hanks, making his Broadway debut in "Lucky Guy," also received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.
Laurie Metcalf in Sharr White's "The Other Place" is among the women nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play.
Also nominated are Amy Morton in "Woolf"; Kristine Nielsen in "Vanya"; Holland Taylor in "Ann," about the late outspoken Texas Gov. Ann Richards, written by Taylor herself; and Cicely Tyson in Horton Foote's "Bountiful."
