Katie Couric's 'CBS Evening News' debut may include Bush interview

UPI News Service, 08/29/2006

Looking for ways to make a big splash with Katie Couric's debut as "CBS Evening News" anchor, CBS bosses are considering adding President Bush to the mix.

Portions of an interview Bush gave for the Sept. 6 CBS special "How Safe Are We?" may be incorporated into Couric's first newscast the night before, The New York Post reported Tuesday.

Executive producer Rome Hartman told The Post exerpts from the Bush interview could wind up on "CBS Evening News" if "there's a lot of news in it."

As reports about how the new Couric-led nightly news show will be staged, Hartman said, "There are no format commitments."

He said each broadcast will be suited to each particular day's news.
