Kate Hudson's publicist has confirmed the film actress gave birth in Los Angeles to her second son.

The child, who was born Saturday, is the first for Hudson and her fiance, Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy. The couple announced their engagement in April after about a year of dating.

Hudson's representative told People.com the "Almost Famous," "Le Divorce" and "Nine" star gave birth to a "healthy baby boy" during the weekend.

No other details regarding the child's name or measurements were immediately available.

People.com said Hudson and Bellamy wanted the baby's gender to be a surprise until he was born.

The actress, who is the daughter of actress Goldie Hawn and the stepdaughter of actor Kurt Russell, has said in the past she suspected her second child would be a girl.

Hudson also has a 7 1/2-year-old son, Ryder Russell, with her ex-husband, Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson.
