U.S. pop star Justin Timberlake's first starring role in the movie business will go direct-to-video, bypassing a theatrical release.

"Edison Force," which Timberlake filmed with Oscar-winning actors Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey in 2004, is due in video stores next Tuesday, TMZ.com reported.
The film was screened at numerous film festivals last year, but received some unkind reviews, TMZ.com said.
"The movie is a parade of cliches," The Hollywood Reporter said, "a star-studded dud of a B-picture."
Timberlake has more than one chance at cinematic redemption, said TMZ.com. He is scheduled to appear in four upcoming features, including "Shrek the Third" and the crime drama "Alpha Dog."
