Actor Josh Brolin has been arrested in Los Angeles after an argument with his actress wife Diane Lane ended in a charge of spousal battery.

Brolin was charged Sunday after police responded to a call from Lane at the newlyweds' home, the New York Daily News reported Monday. A spokeswoman for the couple said Brolin was released after posting $20,000 bail.

"There was a misunderstanding at their home," the spokeswoman told the Daily News. "Diane called the police. Josh ended up being arrested for the lowest-end misdemeanor charge of domestic battery.

"Diane did not want to press charges and asked them not to arrest him, but in cases involving the possibility of any physical contact, the police have to arrest first, ask questions later. They are home together and are embarrassed the matter went this far," she said.
