Jon Stewart is to serve as host of the Stand Up for Heroes charity event in New York, organizers said Thursday.

Tony Bennett, Jerry Seinfeld and Bruce Springsteen are confirmed to appear at the Nov. 3 music and comedy event at the Beacon Theatre presented by The Bob Woodruff Foundation and The New York Comedy Festival partner for the fourth consecutive year.

"Stand Up for Heroes transcends politics. We're proud that, together with the Bob Woodruff Foundation, people in communities everywhere are standing up for our troops who have stood so bravely for us," Bob and Lee Woodruff, the foundation's co-founders, said in a statement Thursday. "With many service men and women now returning home, it's essential we give them the smoothest transition possible."

The Bob Woodruff Foundation said it has invested more than $6 million dollar in program spending to help wounded soldiers and their families overcome the challenges they face as they transition and heal from the physical and hidden wounds of war.

Funds raised at the Stand Up for Heroes event are to be used to help troops get physical rehabilitation and counseling, education, employment and financial assistance, and to assist with larger issues like homelessness and suicide, organizers said.
