Kate Gosselin is apparently an old-school mom when it comes to disciplining her children.

The Jon & Kate Plus 8 matriarch has defended recent photographs that depict her grabbing and spanking her 5-year-old daughter Leah in the driveway of the family's Wernersville, PA home.

"Whether the paparazzi are there or not, I am a mother first. I love my children and when they misbehave, I discipline them as I deem appropriate for the situation," Gosselin told Life & Style Weekly through her reps in a Wednesday report.

The alleged incident occurred around 11AM on June 13, according to In Touch Weekly's June 24 issue, which reports that a "witness" spotted Kate and her eight children playing outside.

When Leah -- one of Kate and her husband Jon's 5-year-old sextuplets -- began to blow a whistle loudly, she was verbally reprimanded by her mother because she was on the phone, according to In Touch.

However Leah blew the whistle again and Kate "seemed to lose her temper," according to the witness, who added Kate then stormed over to her daughter, grabbed her and hit her.

"The girl was screaming and crying," the witness told In Touch.  "Kate just pushed her away and walked off with her coffee. Her older sisters were trying to make Leah feel better."

The alleged incident is the latest involving Kate and Jon -- both of whom have recently denied allegations of infidelity.
