John Mayer says comments he has made about his music shouldn't be mistaken for hints the U.S. recording artist has reunited with ex-girlfriend Jennifer Aniston.

People.com said the Internet has been abuzz with speculation the former couple is back together since Mayer allegedly spoke publicly about believing in second chances.

"This is equal parts fabricated, cobbled together and misleading," Mayer replied on his blog.

"Let's break it down: I don't think I ever said 'I believe in second chances!' But I can't be 100 percent sure, as it's possible I could have accidentally said something succinctly and to the point."

Mayer and Aniston have dated several times in recent years but always broke up.
