TV talk-show host Jerry Springer will do a daily radio talk show in Cincinnati beginning in January, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Friday.

The former Cincinnati mayor and TV news anchor will be on the air from 9 a.m. to noon on WSAI-AM when the Clear Channel station switches formats -- from oldies to liberal talk. Springer told the paper he wants to syndicate the show nationally.

"There is clearly an opportunity for new voices to be heard today around the country," he said.

Springer said his one-year commitment to the radio show will not affect his daytime TV show, which is taped in Chicago. He plans to do the radio show from Chicago Monday through Wednesday, and then do the Thursday and Friday radio shows from a Clear Channel studio in Kenwood, a Cincinnati suburb.

Springer, 60, would not say how much longer he planned to do the TV show, which he has been doing for 13 years.

"When it comes time, I'll stop the TV show," he said.

He also left open the possibility of re-entering politics in 2006, when a number of statewide offices -- including governor -- will be decided.
