Singer Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony sued the National Enquirer in a Northern Ireland court over an item connecting them to a drug scandal.

The suit filed in Belfast is the first of a series of lawsuits that seeks a retraction, an apology and damages from the Enquirer and its parent company, American Media Inc., ITV News in London said Tuesday. Other suits are expected to be filed during the week at courts in Dublin, London and Paris.
The celebrity couple's attorney said an article the Enquirer ran stating that they were involved in a heroin scandal with a photographer was made up.
Lopez and Anthony chose to sue in Europe because, in general, libel laws across the continent favor the person suing.
