An Illinois lawmaker is proposing legislation to create corporate-sponsored license plates available to motorists for discount prices.

State Sen. John Mulroe, D-Chicago, said his proposal would reduce the price of license plates from $99 to about $84 by allowing corporations to buy advertising space on the plates, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.
Mulroe said the corporation would pay the $15 plus an additional payment to the state for the advertising rights.
"This gives us a chance to raise revenue without raising taxes," Mulroe said. "We've got to think outside the box these days."
He said the proposal would be a "win-win situation for everyone" because it would not cost taxpayers any additional money and would bring new revenue to the state.
