Okaloosa County Sheriff Ed Spooner said he ordered the investigation into the February arrest and detaining of George Funti, 65, of Freeport, a couple of weeks ago and he reviewed the current findings Monday, nwfdailynews.com, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., reported Wednesday.
"Based on what has been presented to me, we're going to continue this investigation," Spooner said.
Funti was arrested after he dropped a bottle of nitroglycerin while working out at the gym. Deputies said the powder inside the bottle was field tested and showed a positive for cocaine.
The powder was later discovered to be the remains of Funti's nitroglycerine pills. He spent three days in jail.
"This was not a mistake, this was neglect," Funti said. "Somebody just didn't care to follow through with the paperwork to keep a man out of jail."
