"Deadwood" creator David Milch and HBO will be looking to mirror the success of their well-received U.S. western series with "John from Cincinnati."

While HBO canceled "Deadwood" this year, the series' positive reviews and loyal fan base prompted the cable network to greenlight 12 episodes of Milch's "Cincinnati" for a summer 2007 release, TVWeek.com reported Tuesday.

"David Milch is one of the most original storytellers working in any format today," HBO Entertainment President Carolyn Strauss said. "We are honored to have him as part of the HBO family. The sky is the limit for his new series."

While plot details for "Cincinnati" have not been released, the surf-noir series stars veteran screen actors Luis Guzman, Bruce Greenwood, Ed O'Neill and Rebecca De Mornay.

HBO and Milch will give "Deadwood" fans some closure with a pair of two-hour films.
