'Good Morning America' producer suspended for e-mail comments

UPI News Service, 04/04/2006

ABC suspended John Green, executive producer of "Good Morning America Weekend," for criticizing high government officials in e-mail, a report said Tuesday.

Green was suspended Friday for e-mail comments he made up 18 months ago about U.S. President George Bush and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, The New York Times reported.

The 1-month suspension followed a report in The New York Post that Green, in an April 2005 e-mail sent to an unidentified colleague, criticized Albright and said she suffered from "Jew shame."

Green also was accused of sending an e-mail to a colleague saying, "Bush makes me sick," during a September 2004 presidential debate with Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.

ABC spokesman Jeffrey Schneider declined to discuss Green's suspension.

"I don't think these particular comments fall in the category of robust editorial discussion," Schneider told the Times. "They go beyond that."

Green could not be reached for comment.
