ABC's "Good Morning America" Tuesday offered the position of weather anchor to New York TV personality Sam Champion, TMZ.com reported.

Champion, who has been WABC-TV's weatherman for 19 years, will join the "GMA" team the first week in September, the Web site said.
His face will be familiar to many viewers since he filled in for his predecessor Tony Perkins several times and also substituted for Regis Philbin and Larry King.
Champion has been bestowed with the new title, weather anchor, to reflect "GMA's" increased focus on weather in the coming season.
Champion's hiring came a day after "GMA" added Chris Cuomo to the team, which lost Perkins as well as Charles Gibson, who is headed to "World News Tonight."
