Glitch sends notices to 21,000 addresses

UPI News Service, 11/18/2011

The U.S. Postal Service said more than 21,000 Texas addresses mistakenly received notices about a meeting to discuss the potential closure of a post office.

The Postal Service said a computer glitch resulted in the mailing of the notices, which said there was a public meeting scheduled for Friday to discuss the possibility of the east Arlington post office being shuttered in the near future, the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reported Thursday.

Spokesman Sam Bolen said the notices were correct in stating the office might be closed, but a meeting on the issue has not yet been scheduled.

"That was a computer glitch," Bolen said. "We regret any inconvenience this may have caused anybody. We'll send them another letter or we'll put out some kind of notification when we set up another meeting."

Bolen said a meeting is likely to be held in December or January.
