Girls offended by T-shirt breast humor

UPI News Service, 11/02/2005

A group of Pennsylvania teenage girls has gone nationwide in their criticism of clothier Abercrombie & Fitch for breast humor on its T-shirts.

The Allegheny County Girls club is offended by a new shirt with "Who needs a brain when you have these?" emblazoned across the breast area of the shirt.

Several of the girls appeared on NBC's "Today" show Tuesday.

"We're telling (girls) to think about the fact that they're being degraded," said Emma Blackman-Mathis, the 16-year-old co-chair of the group.

She said rather than a boycott, the group was calling for a "girlcott" of the Abercrombie & Fitch line.

David Krafft -- senior vice president of Chicago-based advertising company Graziano, Krafft & Zale Inc. -- said the "Today" show appearance was tantamount to free advertising. The Chicago-based media company Starcom USA said a 30-second commercial on "Today" costs approximately $58,000, and the girls were on the air for several minutes.
