A woman on a Florida charter boat cruise off Islamorada got a surprise when a 300-pound giant ray jumped into the boat and landed on her, officials said.
Charter boat captain Kelly Klein of Two Chicks Charters said the giant spotted eagle ray leaped into the boat and landed on Jenny Hausch, who became stuck under the giant marine animal, WFOR-TV, Miami, reported Tuesday.
"The ray was slamming this way and slamming that way and she (Hausch) was trying to crawl backwards out from under it but it kept landing on her," Klein said.
Klein said she moved several children to safety in the back of the boat as the giant ray tried to get back into the water.
Florida Wildlife Conservation Committee officers in a nearby boat witnessed the incident.
"We had just passed the boat and we heard screaming. Officer Aja Vickers turned around and said, 'It's in the boat,'" Officer Brett Swensson said.
The officers boarded the boat and got the ray back into the water. Neither Hausch nor the ray were hurt.
"This was not an attack. These things are not looking to have a human meal," Vickers said. "It's a one in a million chance and it's just amazing that it happened to them."
